right guys n gals its time for another oil change before winter sets in i norm use a good quality 10-40 oil but was wondering if anybody uses 5-30 in there car

is there any benefits or negatives on using 5-30

2.0 16v redtop 106k

Stick to 10/40 mate will tap and rattle on 5

Ye, for a red top, you don't want too thin an oil grade. I'd stick with 10w-40.

as above 10- 40

as dave said 5 will rattle its bollocks off :lol:

I ran 5w40 in my manual before (18SV), can't say it rattled any more than usual but there was no difference to be honest between that and the 10 grade. When it's hot though you don't want thin oil, it'll break down more causing more wear.

As already said, stick with 10/40. Not only is it half the price, and the right oil, it saves you having to flush the engine, which you'd have to do if you go from semi to synth. Not worth the hassle!!!!

Semi synthetic works fine with synthetic. It mineral and synthetic you shouldn't mix
