Which CAM KIT

Post by Barney »

Hey guys,

I'm starting to get all the parts together for the rebuild and I’m looking into buying an up rated cam kit to buy. Or is it not worth it?

Do i go for

a) Newman
b) Piper
c) Standard

I’ve done a little bit of research and im swaying towards fast road cam kit but the prices vary SO much Newmans which i know are the dogs as had one in my Series One RST but they want £380 plus VAT just for the cams, I’ll still have to buy vernier pulls, followers etc etc.

Or do i buy the Piper fast road kit for around £450 which has everything in it.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreicated as depending on which one i go for affect other decisions further down the line i.e. Wheels, Tires, Discs, Pads....

Dont know a great deal about it TBH, Guessing standard C20XE i do know that the head has been skimmed in the past.

But will be getting completely stripped, cleaned and rebuilt tho.

To be honest the best cams are the standard ones .Best to go down the throttle bodies route and full stainless exhaust.
You could have the head ported and polished to improve air follow.

Completely agree. The standard pistons just can hope with more lift. You can mess with the duration but then your idling will be poor. Not worth the 5bhp in my opinion
