gsi misfire

hi
can anyone help me please.iv just bought a gsi 4x4.it idles fine bit misfires under load.the car was garaged for 6 years until recently
iv changed the plugs but this didnt help
its a 2 lirte redtop sfi

please help.its pisxing me off now

Have you tryed the dis. cap, rotor arm, coil, plug leads and dose the early xe have an igintion amp module?

yeah am selling it but needs to run right.iv only tried plugs so far.im gona try leads/cap/rotor arm tomoro.just wondered if u guys thought it might be something else.im not too clued up on the redtop engine.lol

I would try those first. Bang some fresh fuel in if its stood so long aswell.

hi.just another quick update.iv just changed the dizzy cap/leads/rotor arm also stuck £20 of fuel in and still no joy.still missing under load.do you think a fuel filter is in order as car sat for 6 years.it idles fine and drives.its only when you put the foot down thai is misses.can it be a cam shaft sensor.any help would be greatly appreciated.
if the bumpers dont scuff then it aint low enuf.

thank god i have u guys to ask questions to.lol.am i right in thinking that the fuel filter/pump is located on the n/s/r of the car next to the chassis leg.
if the bumpers dont scuff then it aint low enuf.

fuel pump ser up is driver side rear

remover rear wheel and youl see it :thumb

tps = throttle position senor on throttle bodie under sfi box

thanks for the help ill go have a look.my mates gona drop me off a crank sensor and tps later so will try them too.

take note when you remove tps as it just dont bolt on

it can be adusted etc

Also make sure that the plug for the maf is not poking up in the air and is well tucked down ( loosen the hoseclips and twist the pipe). If they are sticking up then they can rub on the underside of the bonnet and upset it when you are under load.

i had a prob like this in one of my old gsi's
idled perfect and drove prefect
but when i went to get it to her she missed

i tryed everything
it turned out the fuel line from the pump and worn away and was leaking but it was very had to find it,

mine was a knackered Fuel pressure regulator and injector, changed the fuel rail and its perfect

all been changed.it seems to miss more when it warms up.

where do i go next.
i think the oil cooler mite be leaking oil into the water.would this cause a misfire?

Its impossible for the oil cooler to leak oil in the water as it doesnt have water in it.

Have you tried another afm? Tried unplugging the lambda

it dont think it has a lambda as i couldnt find it.iv just had a afm dropped off so im gona try that tomoro.

hey.just like to say a big thank you to everyone for answering my questions but i have another one for you.iv noticed my car doesnt have a catalyst.can anyone tell me the month/year that you need a cat.mine is a 1992 on a k.thanks for your help i really appreciate it.

I might be wrong, but I seem to recall all k plate cars required that cat tests. Basically Aug 92 onwards. Have you sorted the misfire now?
