Wierd whining noise after R turn from cold.

For a while now my 1.4 has been producing what sounds like a gear whine after swinging right about 200yds from home. It's a thin, edgy whine which disappears inside a half mile. In over 40 years of driving I've never experienced anything like it. The only idea I've had is that one of the D/S plunger joints has dried out grease in it and this is temporarily preventing the D/S returning to its correct free length and is side loading the diff bearing(s). Has anyone else had such a phenomenon?

That I don't know but I know I'll enjoy checking! It's possible that they have 24 year-old grease in them as the car has done only 35000 miles.

CV joints don't usually whine, they knock or seize. Difficult to suggest things without hearing it but based on the description I would favour a diff problem myself.

Oh and a seizing joint will also give feedback as vibration.

I thought CV as the previous owner of my V6 said she kept hearing a sqealing noise coming from the front end, before I bought it, I popped the nearside CV boot off to find next to nothing in grease in there... Chucked more in and haven't heard anything since. Worth a check just in case even if it's not that.

Possible it hasn't quite reached seizing so you could be right.
