Tks it all helps. I'll take this up with Mark @ Automark in Stokesley.

This could become a very expensive and ineffective exercise. IMHO, the best thing that you could do would be to make some kind of list or statement with regard to what you want to achieve and why. Then, with our help, you can put together a wishlist of parts based on your goals. Don't forget, you have the benefit of experience/knowledge of Cavalier-owning members here, which will be unmatched by a 'generic' garage who might not be familiar with the intricacies of the various powertrain configurations fitted to the model. Forum buddies will be able to advise on tried-and-tested products as a consequence of proven results (as opposed to second guessing and theory).

Exactly, you need to know where you want to end up before you can get there.

For example, I want more torque over everything else.

I wish I could be that rational! It was just what started out as a dream of having faster gear changes to make better use of the engine's current capabilities without throwing everything out and starting again. If Forum members like to make any suggestions along these lines then I'd be more than happy to listen!

Modify the linkage for shorter throw. Seems exceptional to buy SCCR box for standard road driving

Looks great, will follow up.

Has anyone had any experience from either using and/or fitting one of these??? I rather doubt that it's idiot-proof.

There is a How 2 by Squig, where he achieved a similar effect by fitting a shorter Astra Mk4 / G gear stick.
Seems relatively easy even for a novice.

Is the shorter Astra gear lever the same as

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASTRA-GTE-GSI ... 0742008564?

Or does the latter include more extensive mods to the linkage?

I have asked the seller for more details than are published on eBay (which is not a lot!)
