Morning all,

I purchased two clutches off eBay which were an absolute bargain, brand new old stock. While they showed up as compatible on the checker, I questioned the seller; they both said that these clutches are for a recessed flywheel.

Not knowing what flywheel is fitted in the Cav I went to have a look via the inspection plate, but to be honest I'm none the wiser.

If someone can have a look at the photos below via the dropbox link and tell me if it's a flat fly, or a recessed one.

I just checked on spare engine flywheel and it is slightly recessed. Maybe only a couple of mm. What engine is yours? The one I checked is a 2.0SEH

Looking at the pressed shape on that clutch assembly, I would say that you have a flat fly-wheel.

On a "pot" flywheel, there is a deep recess, probably between 13 and 16mm deep.
This means that the pressed metal shape does not "look" as deep as the pressure plate and friction disc are set inside the recess.

As a rule of thumb -
Cars from 1988 to mid / late 1992 will have standard fly wheels.

Pot flywheels were introduced on late 1992 onward (facelift) Cavaliers.

With regard to a 20SEH engine - this is obviously an "early" engine and therefore will be on a flat flywheel if fitted from the factory.

As for NovaTek - looking at your WIP, you have a 1989 red SRi.
So in all likelihood, you too will have a non-recessed flywheel. And I assume a 20SEH (130) engine.

So - in conclusion...
If the clutches are for a recessed (pot) flywheel, then they should NOT fit your car.
