Hi,

Im new to this site but hoping someone has some advice. The passenger side electric window has stopped working so I am trying to get the switch out from between the seats and check the contacts. Can anyone describe how to get the switch out, many thanks.

Hi Bernie.

Very simple, just use a thin flatblade screwdriver and pry it out carefully from either end, it simply pops out. The connector on the bottom of the switch won't move very far as the wiring loom is tight, but you should be able to un-plug it without too much difficulty.

If you want a complete removal method...

Take your time, and don't go Gun-ho at pulling pieces of trim out of their locations.
20-odd year old plastic can become quite brittle (hand brake lever support), or rough handling can cause location tangs to deform or become damaged.

So here we go -

There are four screws holding down the rear centre console.

Two in the rear box shaped trough under a rubber mat. (Or cassette holder on higher spec trim levels).

Two more screws under the curved plastic panel in-front of the hand brake.

Lift the plastic panel.

There is one screw at centre front of the console. To connect it to the front centre console.

And one screw at the front of the black hand-brake boot support.

Remove the screw, slide the boot forward by approx 5 to 10mm.
Gentle wiggle and squeeze technique to lift the black plastic boot out of the console.
Lift the boot as high as it will go, to clear the console.

Look into the hole exposed near the front of the handbrake, you should see a shiny stainless steel strip that runs across a white plastic connector enclosure.

Lift the stainless strip up and back, and it should separate the plug halves from each other.

The whole rear centre console should now be fully disconnected and easily possible to lift it from the car to allow complete access to the switch from above and below.

Hope that helps.

Again take your time so as not to snap or deform any plastic parts.

Refitting is a bit of a faff, as you need locate the ribs on the underside of the console with slots in the white connector enclosure.
You need to get the two halves of the connector enclosure to line up and then flip the stainless strip forward and down to latch the two halves together.

It all makes sense when you look at how the two parts go together.

As said line the console ribs up to locate over the connector enclosures.

And lower fully into place.

Fit the front screw that attaches the front and rear consoles together.

Then refit the rear two screws in the base of the rear box trough thingy.

Finally fit the plastic hand brake gaiter support tangs into the slots in the console,
and then slide back into place.

Fit the screw at the front of the hand brake gaiter support.

Clip the curved plastic trim into place.

Check that all electrical connections work, and that the gaiter is fitted correctly, so the hand brake lever lowers fully into the off position.

Final job is to set all your windows .

Raise them to the up position using the console switches. Continue to press the up button for a further 5 seconds after you hear the click.

Repeat for all windows with switches.
(2 or 4 switches dependent upon what you have).
