Gear stick sloppy

Hi everyone just the past few days my gear stick has become really loose even when in gear. You can wobble it side to side etc. I’ve took the cover off and it seems a sort of rubber seal has perished . Is this the issue or is it something else?

It is usually the linkage pin on the selector mechanism at the gearbox end.
It is a common weak spot.

The rubber damper thing on the gear stick on mine was goosed, what a difference when I changed it.
