Hello!

Post by Ontical »

Hi peeps,

I thank you for allowing me to join and I want to ask where I may post requesting parts and services?

I have gearbox issues and didn’t see where I can post for help on here.

I own a 1.6 M reg Envoy Petrol with F13 5 speed transmission, the gearbox needs to be replaced/ reconditioned - I didn’t know where else to turn as the age of the car limits my options badly.

Thanks in advance for any direction given.

Welcome aboard Ontical.

The F13 gearbox is quite a common unit,
across many mid-sized small block engined vehicles of that era.
I assume your car is an early 1.6.

So if funds are limited, try looking around local scrap yards or even ebay for Corsa-B, C, Astra-F, G and possibly Vectra-B.

Having the box rebuilt could be costly.

What makes you think the box is shot?

Have you tried adjusting the gear selector mechanism, and checked the linkages.

and have you adjusted up the clutch cable?

Both can make gear selection very difficult if mal-adjusted or worn.

That engine and box is a lovely combination. My first cav had it. L860BFT!
As Robsey said, if you can tell us the symtoms we can possibly advise better.

also, welcome :)

Doesn’t seem to be problematic - but the mechanic said there’s 10000 miles left in it and I can’t find one anywhere. I’m told only the Cavalier box will go in as it allows you to fit the clutch without removing the box.

It started with a clutch going, which was replaced and then linkage slipped the input shaft (fixed) and then I was told the box was worn inside and had 10000 miles left.

I have one to get hopefully, but PayPal seems to be beyond the seller and he doesn’t respond to my texts anymore, so I’m completely screwed - think I should save up and scrap then swap for a new car.

If it is an F13, it will be the same format as for all other Vauxhalls of that era.

Besides you don't change the clutch that often anyway. Approx once every 100,000 miles or so.
Not unless you are an agressive driver or a boy racer / rally driver.

Just keep your eyes peeled, they will continue to pop up on ebay from time to time.

The clutch went after 1800 miles.

I’ve managed to find one by putting a wanted ad on Gumtree, guy stripped it out of his grandads Cav after he died, but it had been reconditioned just before! Guy just wanted shot of it, so I only have to pay postage! £27.50! BARGAIN!

Worried this might be too good to be true re: gearbox gumtree.

Can you tell me more about these Corsa and Vectra gearboxes which might fit?

I was told that because of the way the clutch can be changed with the gearbox in, I need a cavalier gearbox and nothing else will fit.

The later model cavs didn't have the inspection plate, that box can be fitted, and vice versa I'm sure the non inspection plate one can be fitted to the earlier model, but you also need the different flywheel from the donor car. I'm not sure about the f13 box or if f15 would fit, but think it would likely be more down to the flywheel you need to match the box, and of course the correct clutch for that flywheel.
