F16 gearbox

I'm having a bit of trouble identifying what's the correct grade of oil to put in it. Draining it, there appears to be pas fluid in it and some forums say this is correct? Surely it should be gear oil?

Not very scientific,

But looking at Euro Car Parts,
They quote Castrol 75w90 for manual boxes... or some brands of 80w90.

All listings of ATF are shown for autobox.

I recall that my 1987 F10 had 75w90 in it.
But I have seen plenty of boxes filled with red ATF fluid too.

Sadly, I am many miles from my Haynes manual, and all my pdf versions miss out the clutch and transmission sections.

Looking at a Haynes manual now, it quotes SAE 80 oil for manual transmission, 1.9L quantity.

In that case it will be Duckhams Hypoid EP80 oil.

Thank you for that. I've a bottle of gear oil on the shelf. Will it hurt mixing with any ATF that may remain or do I have to remove the sump off the box and wash it out?

Probably best to drain and re-fill with fresh oil, I wouldn't like to mix them personally.
