HI guys,
trying to help a friend here.... selector switch identified as problem and the only guide they have is this diagram to 'adjust' it which looks like its been translated 'literally' from another language.

Can anyone help or direct to a guide perhaps?
Thanks,

That is taken from TIS2000 software.
It is just bullet-point notation, rather than normal written instructions.

I have the same Vauxhall TIS software.
It seems clear enough to me...
But then I have been using that stuff for ten or more years.
My electronic Haynes manual does not have the gearbox and clutch chapters.
Vectra-B (AF20) info sent via email, so hopefully they can get this sorted.

I assume by adjust, you mean just turn it, not sure why it would go out of alignment by itself, they shouldn't really do that. Anyway to find the P and 1 positions, have someone move the gear lever up and down, and look at the position of the selector switch. Unwind the nuts that secure it to the gearbox and move it by hand to see if there is any slack in it. You can move the selector switch by hand with the nut secured tight, and can feel the gear positions with a firm click as you move it. If the nuts are loose, you can move the switch freely. It's a bit of trial and error to get it right, as it only needs minor adjustments. But from what I'm guessing, it just needs to be adjusted to the point where you can get both P and 1 comfortably. I had some tinkering to do with my old automatic, it wouldn't go into 1, so I ad to slightly move the selector switch until it was bang on.
About the flashing error light, the most common solution is the switch needs to be removed, taken apart (a few screws on the back cover), the old grease cleaned out, careful to note where the brass sliders inside the switch go and don't lose them, fresh grease putting in, sliders back in, and re-assemble it. Old dirty grease inside tends to cause some sort of bad contact resistance throwing up the error light. If that doesn't fix it, it might need a replacement switch, and those are a bitch to find unless you find one at a scrapyard or breakers.
Hope that makes sense Tim.
