Gear selector switch wanted

Post by dorsetdave »

Can anyone suggest where I can buy an autobox selector switch in the U K? I did buy one but the central operating shaft was damaged. I want to get one cleaned up and sorted ready to fit to my 2.0 8v Mk3s. Both decided to give the flash of doom but one has recovered!

I wonder if Envoy CDX has one?
I am sure he converted one of his cars from auto to manual.
It was probably a good 10 years ago, but I am sure he still has some parts stored away.

If it's the same as the vectra one then you can open it and clean it up

Yep - they can be stripped, cleaned, reassembled and then set-up again.

Usually a good clean is all you need :)

I am sure I posted up the TIS information about reassembly and setting up a few years ago.

Look here.

Thanks for the information. I understand that they can be opened up and cleaned out but I was hoping to do this on a spare one and then swap it over. The one that I bought to do this turned out to have a damaged and unrepairable central shaft.

The other thought is - could you get a local "machine shop" to make one up, using the damaged one as a pattern?

Obviously pointing out what the damage is on the old shaft.
