1.8 8v tuning

Post by tattoodevil »

Just bought another Cav with a 1.8 lump this time. I'm not after mega power so no engine swaps, just wanna know whats good to get a little more out of this engine?

Would an induction kit off a 2.0 fit?

Singlepoint. Would a de-cat pipe make much difference?

Thanks, I'll give that a miss then. So whats the next plan- head work/cam or something "bolt on"?

How hard is it to fit a 2.0 8v and is it worth the effort?

I had a Cav Motorsport with a 1.8 single point injection and it was crap. Nice car being a red saloon but honestly, wouldn't pull you outta bed. Traded up from that to an sri (facelift model), was a good bit better but replaced that engine with an sri 130 with f16 box and the difference was huge. It's not gonna be worrying any v6s or turbos like, but the difference in performance between the 1.8i and the sri130 was massive and was a pretty easy straight forward swap.

Easy job to do if you use your loaf and have the right tools.
About 25-30bhp difference depending on how well kept the engine is and if you go for the NE or the SEH. SEH means you can legally decat it anyhow (if you don't you'll run into problems later on).
