Coil

Post by shuviteer »

Is my '95 2.0ltr Cav fitted with a ballasted coil or not as I want to get a sports coil with a bit more spark power and don't want to get the wrong type !!!! :|

Use a multimeter between the positive terminal and earth, turn the ignition on. If you see battery voltage then no if its lower then yes

I'm presuming you mean on the coil and not the battery !!???
Also, if it doesn't register anything for a non ballast, how can it register lower ???? Or have I misunderstood your reply ? :?:

I do apologise for not making it clear. I meant the coil just connect a voltmeter between the positive side of the coil marked 15 and a good earth. Switch the ignition on and measure the voltage. If you see between 9 and 11 volts you have a ballasted coil. If you see 12 volts and up (depending on the charge in the battery typical 12.6 volts) then it is unballasted. I have a Cavvy SRI C20NE and that is 11V and has a ballast resistor.
