C18NZ trubo?

Post by shox1991 »

im rebuilding my second C18NZ and im wondering would the origional block handle a turbocharger, if so then one will be fitted as i have a subarui imperzza WRX STI turbocharger sitting in my garage and would like to fit that onto it, i can get customs manifolds and forged pistons made to order so has anyone tried turboing a C18NZ at all in any circumstances

thanks :)

The block will be fine, its basically the same block as any of the turbo 4 pot engines.

use two head gaskets and a spacer plate... then use a megasquirt ecu setup and custom map and you'll be fine... possibly a turbo AFM to

ive been told to take the turbo oil pressure feed from the oil pressure sensor/switch using a T piece but ive found a allen screw on the block by where the front cover and oil filter sit naturally, and its on an oil gallery would this be better or should i stick with the oil pressure sensor/switch way? also in stead of getting my low conpression pistons do you reckon that the old pistons would handle it if i used 2 headgaskets? and has anyone done this before or heard of anyone trying it because i cant find one on the net atall?

thanks :)

using a spacer plate and two head gaskets you can optimise the compression ratio, and yes it is fairly common trick (suggested to me by numerous people, inc my mechanic), the plate will need to be custom cut.

You need it to be fed by gravity back into the sump, if it was me id drill and tap the block ala c20let as you dont want a restriction on your oil return.

ive found excellent points on my block after further investigation and it looks like the block was made to take a turbo origionally because theres a drilling that runs from next to the crank from inside to out but no all the way through on the block which points straight into the sump, and its on the inlet side of the engine, also ive got hold of a calibra/cavalier MPI manifold but it dont fit my head and needs new injectors, anyone got the head to fit one and injectors, ecu, loom? :)
