The alternator charging relay is a 16 amp 5 pin .could I use a 20amp 5pin as I can't find a 16amp relay

I would say go for it.
The rating of the relay determins the maximum current that it can switch without failing. So a rise from 16 to 20 AMP shouldn't cause any issues at all.

I just out the 20 amp in .with the new alternator .to find the battery is dead also :wall so have to go get one :fight

Where is this relay located mate? Think mine is playing up
its is left of the button release catch .there is a pin beside where the door Rests on the trim.pull this out and then pull the trim off.you will need to disconnect the bonnet catch release lever.you will find a yellow relay ,black relay and green box.

the yellow relay is for the fan
i forget what the green box is
and the black relay is the one your looking for mate
