And I know that is just untrue. Hone and Professional was, for the most part, a marketing gimmick and under the skin they are exactly the same.

I wasn't doubting that your laptop is more powerful but if I knew exactly what hardware you have then it would be easier for me to help.

I'll get the full spec list and pm you dude :thumb As said, my desktop won't run as it has a blue screen error on start-up.

I don't think that I agree with that statement. From a usability/accessibility point of view, yes, they are very similar interfaces, but Windows 7 is a radically different beast under the hood.

I'm not a fan of the new stuff... Too silly and flashy. Simple, honest and reliable is what XP is and always has been. :D

For me Windows 7 was and is still the best after XP Pro of course which I used for years but as my employer updates all our systems to Windows 7 I have found it similar to XP and a doddle to use, plus having a Nokia Lumia 625 phone all my hardware speaks to each other perfectly without the need of downloading add ons for everything I do..

Andrei, gaming problem could be the drivers...Some older XP games will now not run due to updates put out by Microsoft meaning your software has been updated on the system, your only way back would be a roll back to initial installation which I would not recommend or update your software to Windows 7 as it runs most stuff XP did in my experience.

As for Windows 8.....Complete cack, even microsoft are working on Windows 9 now as 8 was so not user friendly bar the phones which had it installed like my Nokia on 8.1 which works a treat
Free Parking is a bonus, leaving my Cav in a carbon dust filled carpark is not.....

Could be a good point regarding the drivers... That's probably why. :thumb

Yeah, just look at the version numbers to see which ones are built on the same kernel.

Windows 95: 4.0
Windows 98: 4.1
Windows ME: 4.9

Windows 2000: 5.0
Windows XP: 5.1

Windows Vista: 6.0
Windows 7: 6.1
Windows 8: 6.2
Windows 8.1: 6.3
Windows 10 (Technical Preview ): 6.4

So Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 are all part of the same family!

Xp was good but is so outdated and a lot slower than Windows 7.
Windows 7s usability is almost identical to that of xp, power and stability is awesome.
Andrei why o why you not using Windows 7, I've never looked back.

I've used it before when I borrowed my mum's laptop, did not like the layout. I prefer the same dish that I've been served for years :thumb

I sympathise with XP users. It took me a very long time to make the transition to Windows 7 and I still prefer the XP/2000 layout. But really 7 is a great operating system and a worthy successor.

If I had my way though, I'd release a 4th service pack for XP to bring it up to date with modern technology with IE 11, DirectX 11 and SSD trim support.

I agree as millions of others do, that they should have carried on updates and possibly another server pack before discontinuing support.

However that is not the case. Ain't nothing we can do about that. Although we can still get Malicious Software Removal Tool updates each month :thumb Better than nothing.
