wheel wobble at 60+

Post by Peanut_119 »

I have a wheel wobble at motorway speed, nothing to serious just a slight wobble on the steering wheel, I noticed it after I changed my alloys, so first thing was change them back.... Still the wobble,

Had tacking done... Still wobble
Had new tyres fitted and balanced... Still wobble
Had track rod end done... Still wobble
I've changed gearbox and shafts aswell
Checked all stupid stuff like wheel nuts, bearings, roll bar, wish ones,

I really can't think of anything else but its really doing my head in.

Could top mounts cause this?

i've got a similar problem, but having changed my top mounts for he ones off my old car, it pretty much eliminates them. is it just a wobble through the steering wheel? or does it come trough the whole car?

knowing the very recent history of my SRi, i'm currently trying to find a pair of driveshafts...

>edit< just noticed youve shanged your shafts, did you put new outer cv joints on?
Theres a fine line between stupid and visionary. You just have to be a visionary to see it.

Is the weight still on the long shaft? If top mounts doesn't cure it consider having wheels balanced on the car, sounds like you've covered most other possibilities.

^ check the joints and make sure one isn't starting to seize in one plane, can give a wicked wobble if it does

Yea weight is on the long shaft, and if top mounts don't sort it then i really ain't got a clue, i know its defo not the wheels as I've tried my mates wheels and it still does it.

The shafts seemed fine, and I've changed them both but the exact wobble is still there.

I will report back when top mounts are changed

another thought...try letting the handbrake shoes off a bit, I've seen a couple in the past that vibrate through the car because they are binding slightly when they warm up?

If they are allright that just leaves the drive shaft, this could be bent slightly or not sitting right

I changed drive shafts when I did the gearbox, the wobble was there before I did the shafts and box and is still there after I done them, I will change the top mounts and see if that sorts it
