Changed the track rod ends on my mk2 ASTRA today which seem very similar to the Cavalier.
The tracking was fine with no tyre scrubbing so I was keen to change the joints and return the tracking as it was originally set.
I came up with an idea which worked perfect (I don't claim originality for it, but I haven't seen it before!)
Jack up front, support, remove wheels, I had a couple of 6ft lengths of 1.5 inch angle iron and drilled a hole in one end of each so it could be bolted to the front wheel hub. So the two pieces of angle are now sticking out the front.
Measure the distance between them (the ASTRA' measured 57.75in)
Change one joint and adjust the double threaded adjuster until the original dimension is achieved, lock up and its done. Repeat for the other side adjusting as required to return to the original dimension.
It worked really well, with no need to visit a tyre depot (who I have been disappointed with in the past) and the adjustment is very controllable.
Just thought I would mention it.
