Hi guys i need a few tips on how to remove my centre capsas sum twonk has rounded the allen head bolt off
it should be a 4 mm one but its rounded of so tried a 5 but its slightly too big.... Any tips to get the bolts out
apart from butchering the centre cap off ????
As Gaz says, a torx is usually a good bet, you can hammer them in if need be and the shape will allow it to cut it's way in giving a tight fit. They also round less easily as the pressure is distributed differently.
"No the temperature gauge doesn't work........
we've driven 150 miles today........
the heater went cold last Thursday........
they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"
I recently had same problem with a rounded off allen key bolt...
For me I used the supplied allen key and a hammer as they seem quite soft, this instantly allowed me to turn the bolt out far enough to get a pair of mole grips on it and wind it out..
Otherwise my next option was a very narrow cold chisel (8mm) and make a slot across the head of the bolt then insert a decent screwdriver or ratchet and wind the bolt out.
Hope this helps
Free Parking is a bonus, leaving my Cav in a carbon dust filled carpark is not.....
