Sudden "knock" developed.
The cav has depeloped a sudden knock.
All started last night when i turned right going round a roundabout. Its not a loud knock but you can hear it. This morning that has almost dissipered but came back this afternoon after going to the scrap yard.
But theres another depeloped It sounds like a metal on metal sound and someone banging two bits of metal togeather when i go over a bump.
Ive checked everything i can think of ARB is tight, engine dont move neather do the strut the bottom ball joints have been replaced recently, The only thing i can find is that the trackrods have a little bit of "play" in them ? would this be the cause of it ?
thanks.

If it's bits of metal clunking over bumps, I'd say anti-roll bar bushes are gone... Nothing serious.. Although that might be sketchy as they are usually worse when cold... and you say the noise was gone in the morning but came back in the afternoon.. Is the noise coming roughly from the front or back?

Re: Sudden "knock" developed.
both of the above worth checking......try to get it to knock when static by bouncing the car, it'll help to locate it

I had the same thing last year which turned out to be the rear bush on the front arm - so i just changed the whole arm...5853moore wrote:coming from the front , and ive bounced it when its static and theres nothing.

....and try jacking it up, turn the steering on each lock in turn and turn the wheel.....listening for noise or roughness in the cv joints. They should be pretty much silent. It doesn't sound like a cv, but I'm not there listening to it.
I would check over the ARB links and bushes again too to make sure you haven't missed a dodgy bush.

easy way to find out, disconnect both ends from the arms and tie it up5853moore wrote:have had new spings, top and bottom ball joints, wheel is tight,cv joints are good,am thinking its gotta be the arb.

Re: Sudden "knock" developed.
i made the mistake when fiting new ARB links of over tightening them and making the rubber split after a month or so,was driving me mad with knocking and kept dissmissing the link cos i had changed them!then saw they were split and got new ones again! tightening till the gap between washers is 39mm or something like that
