Brakes seize up whilst driving
Brakes seize up whilst driving
Title says it all really. At least one of the calipers seems to be seizing up whilst driving and also getting really hot! So hot that you can't touch the wheel as its also red hot, this is the drivers side front one.
The others dont seem as hot.
If i just drive round town abit its not too bad but after being on the motorway for about 10 mins the steering wheel will start to vibrate pretty bad and also a strange humming/rumbling noise will start. But like i say this only happens after about 10 mins driving, before that its fine.
So does this sound like a seized caliper? Also is there anyone that will refurb the calipers or shall i just do it myself?
The cars a 2006 Impreza wrx with the 4 pot calipers and the Godspeed 335mm brake disc and pad kit
Not a cav i know but a calipers a caliper

Dunno but mine is definatly not fixing its self it just gets worse the further you drive, mainly when on the motorway when it heats up.

Re: Brakes seize up whilst driving
Worth stripping and cleaning it all, I get these occasionally roadside, once they cool down everything contracts and they are usually fine again until the next good run. Often just the pads or sliders sticking, I have had some success with sticky pistons by getting a little wd40 behind the dust cover.
"No the temperature gauge doesn't work........
we've driven 150 miles today........
the heater went cold last Thursday........
they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"

Re: Brakes seize up whilst driving
Sounds like a seizied caliper, If it gets to hot you might warp the disc's
Re: Brakes seize up whilst driving
Ive ordered a genuine seal kit for the 2 front calipers so will whip them off and rebuild them. Amazing really an 06 plate car with stuck calipers allready where as a cav can go 20 years without an issue.
Yeah definately dont wanna warp the discs, £300 a pair
