ABS light is on with the ignition and stays on with the engine running any ideas

Possibly a sensor at the hub needs cleaning? or the rings around the hub. Been mentioned before.

thought if it was a sensor the light would go out and come back on when the car moves !

If its logged a fault im pretty certain it should stay on.

As Andrei says, could be a duff sensor, cracked ring or broken wire some where.

Has anything notable happened recently?

No its been off the road for 7 years and the previous owner wired up the eml to the abs light to get it through the MOT

Abs unit. If it was sensors it would self check and go out then come on when moving off .
Check the plugs and the relays

i have a cav gsi abs unit here if needed. from that gsi i broke a while back

Dan if Graham wants it drop it off with me. Im almost certain he lives judt off the a500 and I pass most days of the week

Cheers Gaz, I believe you can just replace the ABS ECU and leave the pump in place, is that right

it'll sound stupid but have you got brake lights? i had my abs light on and the fault code flashed up the brake light switch so i swapped it with one i had spare and it still stayed up, it wasn't untill i checked my brake lights that i found i had been driving round for about a month with no brake lights. i yours has been sat for 7 years then i would suspect the brake light bulbs need cleaning and or replacing

Just been out to check, brake lights are fine, forgot its got the check control for brakes as well

thought i would share what i had found as it was a cheap fix i now run led brake bulbs nice and bright and unlikely to blow so it saves the fault and saves having my cav written off cos someone behind me didn't know i was braking.
shame i wasn't that would have been easy then

i had this problem i replaced the ovter cv joints with the reluctor rings on and cleaned the end of the abs sensor but be warned the abs holder is a b@sterd for snapping ive some gen abs sensors that work .

or pay someone with a dignostics to read the faults i payed a tenner and locted the fault straight away the ecu will still log the fault even if you haven't moved the car my ecu said bad signal

I have replaced the ABS pump and the light goes out when the car starts. On driving I can feel the pump operating when I press the brake pedal, this happens for three or four times then the ABS light comes on. Once the ABS light is on the pump does not operate and cannot be felt through the brake pedal. Any ideas

I have replaced the ABS ECU and front sensors, on doing the paperclip test I have code 25, incorrect toothed gear front (both) I can't believe the toothed rings are wrong as I have fitted new CV joints

Sounds like it isn't happy with them, did they have the same number of teeth on them?

I am sure they did, they were specified for a calibra. If the gap is wrong between the sensor and the teeth, would it not show the same results ?

I don't think the gap is so critical, as it's the pulse that is important, not how strong it is, but it could cause issues if it is very weak I suppose. I do recall there being different rings with a choice of teeth numbers so I would look to confirm the quantity myself.

Theres 2 types of ring one with 29 teeth and one with 43. Yours should have 29

all sorted rings changed to 29 teeth, brakes are spot on now, best £4 I've spent
