If i upgrade to rear disc brakes on my Cavalier 1.7 TD do i have to change the master brake cylinder for the disc brakes to work?

I have no ABS on my K reg mk3 cav TD.

Nope, though it maybe an idea to upgrade to a non abs cylinder from a 2litre sri.

No worries.
May as well check the condition of the rear flexi's too as you'll have to replace the rear solid line on the rear beam when you swap over.

My Cavalier TD and the GSI beams both have flexi pipes on the rear beam. The GSI beam i bought as been cut off and as a bit of the flexi pipe still on the beam.

Do you know if the Cavalier TD rear flexi pipes are different in anyway to the GSI rear flexi pipes?

Gsi don't have beams so it's probably an sri one. All beam flexis are the same

I've recently done this on my TD, and it makes one hell of a difference. I've kept the original master, and aside from my ABS still having a touch of Alzheimers on occasion, everything works as intended. I'd certainly replace any flexi though, as stuff like that will eventually go when you least expect it.

While we're talking about brakes, I've developed one hell of a squeal recently. I checked for fresh scoring on the discs, but no sign of any grit in the pads. It happens only at slow speed, and under very light braking, so I guess something is loose, the retaining spring or some such?
