Is the track rod end location the only thing stopping me from fitting coilovers?
Ive seen the diy jobs where they thread the leg.

Me and a mate are debating how it could be done (he has amk1 astra) and shares the same setup as a cav.
He wabt to fit mk4 astra coilovers to it.

I no about them. We trying to find a way to fit astra type coilovers were the hub and leg can be seperated

problem is the steering rack is on the frame not on the firewall so trying to use vectra/mk4 astra means a rack issue

What you should try and do is fit the whole Hub assembly off a mk4 astra, including an astra suspension leg with a cavalier topmount fitted. I dont think the track rod end would be that much of an issue, worth trying it on to find out.

Also if it fits you could have a nice cheap set of bolt on 308mm brakes off a turbo.

I was thinking something like the big block hubs they use on a corsa b so that the track rod end then fits to the hub rather than the leg (corsa b ones have to track rod end higher up than the astra. Only thing is the rack arms would sit lower but without offering it up I dont know how much lower.
The hole in the body that the arm goes through, my arm is right at the top of it due to how low the car is. So I have plenty of room to lower the arm into new position but how would I lengthen the arm if I needed to?

Easy just put a slightly longer track rod end on off another car.

got to find a big block corsa b hub now and a longer track rod, see if it all fits together

It would steer like shit, Your not taking any of the steering angle into consideration its not a fixed point it moves dynamically.

Do some reading its not as simple as just swapping bits about and hoping for the best.

I no what your saying gaz. And I wouldnt put something together that is dodgey or not thought through properly. At the moment its a idea and this is the first idea I have. I will make sure its fully safe and mot passable.

If you are looking to fit hubs with the steering joint on them then you are going to need to find a way to lower the rack. As gaz says the steering arms need to be somewhere near level or it will be all over the place.

Gaz is completely right peanut, the steering angle ofset would make the steering even more vague but twitchy. Steering arms need to be as short and as level as possible. Be better to mod a subframe to take the rack

So is everybodys steering arms going upwards close the top of the whole due to how low the car is or is it just mine?

Mine as well. That's why Cavs steer so shit lol
