Knocking sound

Post by camy »

Can anyone help me, I renewed all my suspension on my cavalier eg new shocks, springs, wishbones, track rod ends, drop links strut bearings etc and I've got a knocking sound coming from the drivers side!!! So I stripped it back down and rebuilt back up today and the knocking is still there but not as bad, anybody got any idea what it could be??? Thanks camyu

Is it lowered at all?

Really that's a new one

Have you checked the bearing is fitted correct and not upside down.
Also are the shock inserts tight, if not they will knock

Mike's did it after he lowered it, the spring kind of settles itself in to where it wants to stay...

Sounds like the spring was either too short for the shock absorber, or it wasn't setup right when it was put in place.

I'd go through it again, make sure everything is done up correctly. Does it only knock from one side? Both sides?
What is knocking? Do you know? Are you sure it's from the front?

I've seen this happen when the wishbone wasn't fully tightened up too, or the little inserts weren't installed in the rear bolt hole.

No worries, sometimes tight isn't always correct though - check your torque settings could have something ever so slightly compressed which gives you enough play for a clunk or knock. (unlikely but worth looking into).
Good luck getting it sorted :)

Given what you have already covered I would be with Gary. I the roll bar bushes are worn the bar makes a racket as it bounces up and down
