Major squeaking coming from rear.

Post by cavaliersri130 »

I've noticed a squeaking coming from my cavalier rear strut when driving down the road it's really loud.
What could it be should I have lubed all new rubbers up before refitting everything or do you recon I could be in need of new struts.

Need help please.

Likely going to be a worn bush.

What did you use as lube? If it's WD40 or any similar silicone-free based liquid, then that'll be your problem.

I didn't put any grease on it. Just wd40 so it must be what it needs.
Also it's had all new bushes.

Do you know specifically where the squeak is coming from? I've never had to lube up the rear bushes.

Have you had the rear axle off previously? If so, I have experienced issues in the past where it has been tightened up too much in the air and at the wrong angle so the bushes have to over compensate - possibly what is causing your squeeks.
there?

Dampers unlikely - however have you checked above the spring rubbers to see if there is something caught in?

Na I haven't had a chance to get under her to narrow it down but I'll find it when I get a day free and getting it sorted.
I need to spend some time on her she's getting knocks and noises all over now.
Went to start her after getting back from my holiday and she's got a whining noise now I think it's either the alternator belt or possibly the water pump but am unsure as the pump is new.

Well started her up this morning and took her for a spin to the petrol garage.
And the whining has gone now.
But I still have to sort out the knocking noise on the back end, had a little look underneath but really I need someone to rock the car while I'm listening.
Might get my other half to help rock her next Tuesday then grease everything up.

I have the clear grease can't remember it's name but it's in a tub with a red top.

I'm going to try that.
Then if I can, sort out a few other niggling bits like the leaky sunroof and what not.

Think it's a blocked pipe.

You need rubber grease if you're putting it on bushes.

Discovered the squeaking is coming from the anti roll bar rubbers that I replaced so I need to grease them up went under car and rocked her and it appears to be coming from there so next week I'm on the case of the mystery squeaks.
