more feel of the road
Re: single v belt
Are there not 2 separate belts?
You set alternator at almost loose tension, get some string wrap it around the pulleys, Mark where it crosses then measure length. you then know size of belt

Re: single v belt
If it's a single belt it's not a v, it's a multi v. You might find that the tensioner won't work if you change the belt route by removing the ps pump.

Re: single v belt
i think troy is right, theres 2 seperate belts iirc so the bottom pulley takes 2 belts one to the alternator one to the pas pump so really you just remove the pump one of the belts and leave it as it was
this only applies to the early single v setup

Re: single v belt
Warning light for what. A missing belt, I don't think Cavaliers have that facility

Well I'm not the strongest of people but I tried to roll my V6 down the drive the other day with the engine off, and I could barely turn the wheel
As for feeling the road, I suspect you may be right, as it will be more mechanical rather than hydraulic. But you may put more pressure on the column.... At least that's what it feels like to me.

Re: single v belt
Ps racks are geared different from manual racks, much higher ratio. If you just take the belt off you'll find it a bitch to park.

I agree mate, but my first car, a 91 Colt 1.3, never even needed it as it didn't weigh anything.joe cavalier sri wrote:Cavalier342 wrote:Well I'm not the strongest of people but I tried to roll my V6 down the drive the other day with the engine off, and I could barely turn the wheel

With Cavaliers, maybe the basic 1.4 models didn't need it but anything above it definitely does!

We didn't have power assistance years ago.But then
we didn't have low profile tyres either !
Good luck when you need to get out of a tight
parking space.
