Noise on a brand new CV joint

Post by James McGrath »

I've just had a new CV joint put on the Diplomat yesterday.

It's fixed my ABS problem as the ABS ring was replaced at the same time so hooray for finally fixing that. :D

However, it is now making a grinding noise around right hand turns.

Is this normal? I've literally only driven about 20 miles in it so far so is this something that will wear off, or is it a case of a poor quality part?

Are you sure the correct CV was replaced?
Was it properly packed?
Are you sure it's the CV and not the backing plate on the brake disc or something?

Yeah it was the correct CV joint that was replaced. It was making a clunk noise occasionally when dry steering, that has now stopped.
As for the other two I really couldn't tell you.

It only makes the noise round tight right hand bends, such as roundabouts.

After driving it for a bit today, I think it has got a bit quieter.

Apart from this I'm quite happy with the results. I had all 4 brake pads changed for some EBC ultimax ones, a new Bosch O2 sensor and genuine Vauxhall back box put on and it's running better than ever.
Brakes are a huge improvement. When I get round to it I'll update my WIP.

I'd just check to see if the back plate needs a little tweaking. It happens at times when things get disturbed.

It's strange, but it seems to have stopped making the noise today.

Maybe it just took a few miles for the grease to get into the cv joint properly.

Possibly, but that would suggest that it wasn't packed before / during fitting.
