Tow bar removal

Post by chrisash86 »

Hi I want to remove my tow bar from my 95 hatchbac. I have looked underneath and can see there are three nuts either side holding the frame to the chassis. Tried to undo these but the just spin round?

You probably have to lock the bolt somehow on the floor of the trunk under the carpet, put a wrench on it and turn it until the end of the wrench hits the metal bodywork, locking it in place, then undo the nut from the bottom, get some lubricant in there if it looks rusty.

As above really, though I'm not a fan of bracing bars / tools against body panels.
Give the threads a good going over with a wire brush before you start too.

The lower tailgate panel is strong enough to support that. It'll be fine.

And remember when you remove it you'll have some holes where the towbar used to be attached.

Make sure you put on some underseal around these to stop them from rusting. :thumb
