lowering springs

hi there slowly getting my cav back on the road just bought myself some 17inch alloys with 205 40 tyres on would like to lower it. but i have measured the wheels and they stick out 10mm further than my original wheels could i still lower it my 50mm without hitting the arch any help would be much appreciated

Hi mate if your alloys are the right offset they shouldn't rub mines lowered 60 on 17ns with no problems.

It is not just a matter of if they stick out 10mm further than the originals.
There should be some room for tolerance built into the car design anyway.

What you need to check is how close the tyre edge sticks out compared to the inner lip of the arch.

If it is a little too close and you know what you are doing, you could roll the lip of the arch so that you gain a little clearance.
