gsi brake fluid rsservoir cap7

Post by Calibre500 »

Hello. I'm trying to get my GSi back on the road after a long while. Some bits were removed for one reason or another and some I can find, some I can't unfortunately .One of these is the cap for brake fluid reservoir . Why I'd removed it all those years ago? No idea. What I need help with is to know which other ones will fit the GSi from Vectra/Astra etc. GSi ones will be really hard to find nowadays .Cheers.

Hard to say, without a picture of the resevoir itself.
According to EPC / Ecat24, there are 3 different caps with float switches and one without.

I'll try and see if I can post a photo as I've not done one before so not sure how easy or difficult it is but it has a connector for definite. That's the only issue with old cars... trying to find parts and at a fair price.

GSI one's definitely have a level switch built in is about all I can tell you. Apart from anyone of them 3 should fit & work fine

This is what Ecat24 lists.

If you recognize the resevoir, then we can narrow down which cap it is.

The next step is to see what other models the correct cap was fitted to.

I agree, number 10 sure does look like the cap in the photo.

What is odd is that this is the version without a float.

Isn't the float item 6 on the parts list?
Looks same reservoir as the CD, with float.

Hello. Apologies for the delay in getting back to you but managed to take a photo of the brake fluid reservoir and I'm hoping I've added a working link below. Hopefully this will give you a better idea of the reservoir to determine which cap will fit this along with the float. Thanks.

There is also a plug with 2 wires resting on the reservoir, of which I'm not sure whether it connects to the cap or not.

I would suspect that the two wires are indeed for the fluid level.

Probably one brown wire and another wire which is brown with a red stripe if my memory serves me correctly.

The best way to check is to short the two wires together, and it should put the light on, on the dash.

Will try and check the wire tomorrow .Has the photo given you any ideas as to which type it is and to see which other vehicle it'll fit?

If it is indeed No10 as James suggests, then it indeed quite a common unit.
Even used on my 1994 LSi.

Ecat advises that it is used on -
Cavalier mk3
Calibra
Corsa-B
Tigra-A
Astra mk2 / Kadett-E / Belmont
Astra-F

So quite a lot of models upto 1997 ish.

Thank you for your quick reply. Ilk try and hunt one down. Might even approach main dealer to check price.

One more thing looking at the images in the post above .They don't seem to have a link yet have an image embedded. Can any member do that and if so how? It must be easier than finding a host, adding photos, getting a link, copying it and finally pasting it on the forum? Thank you for all that helped me!

Yes any member can post pictures you have to use photobucket or similar there’s a how to somewhere, it’s similar process to what you described but you copy & paste the image code then the image appears in your thread.

That does look just like my reservoir, so yes item 10 should be correct.

This is the one on my 1990 CD:

The one on my 1993 LS is a bit different:

And my 1995 V6 has one that is again different:

Sorry for the poor images.

To be honest with you, they all have the same two pin connectors so I would imagine they are interchangeable. They all work the same way so the minor variations in design shouldn't make a difference to their function.
