YES for the next mot , anyway

if that crack is in the metal scrape it back clean it up and get a small amount of weld on it , try to drill a small hole at the top of the crack to keep it from travelling any further.
and the spring plate on the chassis needs looking at too, it is a favorite starting point to rot the rail out .

clean it up , check for holes , if it ok red oxide ,stonechip, underseal and for that bit of extra protection a shot of waxoyle
now running a swedish vauxhall...

Don't worry about it, but certainly get it seen too.

yes. Get it seen too. It killed off my Astra Mk2. :cry

If you don't sort it, it will crack further, rust and might even rot the chassis, as mine did.

ok then. so i'll get the crack heading upwards seen to, and as for the spring plate, just to confirm, you're saying this is a replaceable part and should be removed and rewelded? i just need to be sure i know what work i need to ask to get done by whoever welds it, and also which parts i should get. as much detailed advice as is necessary would be awesome.

thanks ;-)

i should check the other side too... is the plate welded on to the chassis or is it just sandwiched inbetween the chassis and the spring? does it just slot between the two or is it actually attached to the car?
