Lowering the cav
Lowering the cav
I fitted 40mm Spax Gsi springs to my V6. The front has the wheels almost in the arches, But the rears are still high. Whats a cheap affective way of lowering the rear? I dont want to have to buy a new set of springs. I was thinking of using the ones off my 3litre and just upgrading them ones later. But whats a good cheap fix for the moment?

Re: Lowering the cav
You probably dont wanna hear this but nova lowering springs work but you have to cut a bit of the loop to make it fit the cav.

Re: Lowering the cav
The V6's have a different compound rate on the front due to the extra weight of the V6 engine, I would advise against running GSi springs as they weren't designed to compensate for the extra weight.
as for the rear being higher, thats just the way the cavaliers stance is, they were designed this way for downforce reasons, iv been in a few cavaliers with the rear end slammed and they handle like poop due to them bottoming out too early.

Re: Lowering the cav
My other cav the 3litre started life as a ecotec. The front end didn't sink after fitting the heaver v6 and the back sat nice and low. But the cesaro even with the gsi springs on sits a good 30-40mm off the top of the tryes. My other car is about 10mm.

Re: Lowering the cav
On Smokey I just rode about with an engine in the boot for 6 months (on 40mm lowering springs) that soon got the back sitting down, and it never seemed to return afterwards.
However, you might want to look for a set of 60mm rears.

Re: Lowering the cav
well I suppose a set of -60mm cav springs would level it out more, to be honest I have a burning hatred of people who use corsa/nova springs on a cavalier so dont do it mate

Re: Lowering the cav
most cavs are the same. mine is a v6 running 40mm eibachs all round and the back sits higher than the front. couple of breeze blocks in the boot should sort it, or better still a massive ICE install hehehe
i dont think they do 60mm cav springs, you'd have to go for a nova set up or something and risk upsetting cavyman_130

Re: Lowering the cav
I might treat the 3 litre to a brand new set of courtney springs to replace the ones that have been on it since 2002. Then use the old ones on the cesaro. That might have to be the plan.

Re: Lowering the cav
the back should settle in time theres not a lot of weight there compared to the front .
my 40mm jamex took a while to settle on the back

Re: Lowering the cav
yeah you get 60mm cav springs mate, most brand names do them these days, can pick up a set cheap enough or just browse the forums, should be able to pick up a set of rears 2nd hand.

Re: Lowering the cav
was just about to say that, the rear is the same, its only the front springs that are different due to the weight.
Re: Lowering the cav
i have -40 gmax on mine, back was initially high but settled after about two months. my experience is any lower on the back and it feels like it is dragging its arse. especially with three teens in the back. so stick with the 40's and give it some time.

Re: Lowering the cav
I think the issue may be that you used GSi springs instead of springs from a beam set up.
Re: Lowering the cav
Thats what I think it is mate. I'll see how much a rear pair are going to cost.

Re: Lowering the cav
Just got my hands on a set of Eibachs brand new for £90, So I'm thinking of sticking them on the 3.0 CDX to match the Yellow bilstiens, I'll then use the courtaney springs on the Cesaro and take off the Spax GSi springs. As the rears are all wrong TBH and the fronts are too low and boucey for my likeing.
The only thing is I might regret sticking the eibachs on the CDX as the the look high. I might just fit the fronts and use the eibach rears on the cesaro.
(I love the ride height of the CDX lol)

Yeah Gaz, One seller wanted £200 a set the other £90.
No way I'd pay £200, but dont mind just less than £100.
I cant fault the set on my avensis.
