How to Repair a Vectra-B Remote Key

Post by Robsey »

Just a very brief repair topic.

A follow on to my Remote Central Locking threads.
I have tagged it onto this discussion thread.

This is a typical Vectra-B, Astra-G, or Zafira-A two button remote key.

This specific key fob is for my Vectra-B Megamos anti-theft warning and central locking module.

It is suffering from the only real weak-spot on these early two button fobs.

You guessed it, the connector for the "+" terminal of the battery has broken away.

The lazy way to fix this is to insert some folded up paper to press the battery carrier against it's contact on the circuit board.

If you are lucky it will work, but more often than not, you will throw your key onto a table and the paper packing piece or battery carrier moves, breaking the connection.

The only proper fix without buying a new circuit board, is to solder in a tiny bridging wire.

This requires good vision and steady hands.
I have neither.
But after about a minute or two of squinting, I was able to fashion a more permanent repair.

Not the tidiest, but like I said, not too bad for an old fool with virtually nil near vision.

I took a picture of the red led lit up on the fob to prove it works.

Yet another free fix - my favourite price.

I didn't have a 2025 battery, so fitted a Maxell 2032 instead.

The number is the size...
20mm diameter and either 2.5mm or 3.2mm thick.

Both are 3 volt batteries, so as long as the battery fits and locates securely, they are pretty much inter-changable.
Just 0.7mm difference in thickness.

The newer battery gives much better transmission range and reliability than the old battery of undetermined age.

According to the 2002 Omega owners manual, 3 metres range is normal.
