How to restore worn centre caps.

This guide is designed to save you a few quid or just to make your wheels that bit nicer

This is the best of my "new" azev wheel centres, its not great and the picture doesn't show all the marks, but at £12 or so for a new one its worth half an hour of sanding to fix it up

You can see a major chip on the Z

If the centre is cracked through and the decal is damaged this guide isn't for you.
This one is beyond repair

Cracked and the decal underneath is damaged - the surface marks could be removed

This guide will remove surface marks only, and only work on the solid resin dome type - it wont work on stickers

You will need the following grades of wet and dry paper

600
800
1000
1500

A couple of sheets of 600 should be enough for 4 centres and 1 sheet each of the remaining.

First sand the cap with the 600 dry, it will go matt finish but don't worry just keep sanding till its completely matt and there is no chips/ scratches etc depending on damage it may take a while but don't use a harsher grade to save time as you'll only have to work harder in the later stages.
Now get the 800 wet and sand till you've removed the deeper marks left by the sanding with the 600, at this point the cap will be clearer but still slightly cloudy
Repeat the above with the 1000 and 1500 grades, at this point the cap will still be a bit flat but nearly there.

Get some polish/t-cut something that cuts slightly and polish the cap it should at this point look like this

Once your happy with the finish add a layer of wax just to protect it

Saved yourself some money and your car looks better for it.
