How2: Remove and replace your MK3 Cavalier seats.

Generally this how2 is generic amongst the MK3 Range, the only difference will be if the seats have pre tensioner’s, and / or have heater pads in them.

Firstly the tools:

A good Phillips screwdriver
A good flat blade screw driver
A 13mm socket (deep and 6 sided rather than a 12 sided variant is better)
Rachet and extension bar.
17mm spanner
Pliers (needle nose is best)
T40/T45 (can’t remember off hand – but well worth investing in anyhow)
Container (preferably with multiple compartments)

Now then, let’s start with the rear seats – get the easiest bits done first.

Pull the bench forward and you’ll see 4 pins with cir clips on them, use the pliers to remove the cir clips and store safely and knock the pins through (I also use the pliers here ;) )

Remove your rear bench now its loose and discard as required.

Now, most people would put the replacement bench in – don’t, or at least I wouldn’t

Release the elastic straps for the bench back and drop them forward using the push release in the corner.

Now the back is laid flat, you will need to gently easy up the corner of the backing material and remove the T40/T45 bolts (should be 9 in total)

There is a 17mm nut / bolt that holds the 60/40 backs together - previously I have advised to undo this - however I have found it easier to leave this in place and remove the 3 bolts from the bracket on the back of the seats.

Refitting is reverse of removal, starting with the backs first and finishing with the bench.

To continue just done my front and rears and placed in full leather.

Fronts without safety pretensioners are easily removed, unscrew plastic side trim on each side. Then slide seat right forward and undo both 10mm bolts that are located at back of the rails. Then carefully slide seat back and undo both front 10mm bolts easily seen at front of rails.

Now lift out careful not to scratch window tint as i did!

Putting in is reversal of that but dont cross thread bolts and dont tighten them up until all half way in, makes life so much easier

The bolts in the front seat rails are 13mm (M8 thread) bolts.

Or at least mine are.

(Sorry for messing up your How 2 Gary :no )

For the fronts you will need:

A small flat blade screw driver (for releasing small clips)
A mid sized phillips screw driver
13mm socket & rachet (3/8's or 1/2" will do)
May also need an extension bar to give additional clearance too.
