I fancied some more modern lighting in my cav, now i could go and buy a joblot of bulbs but tbh ive not had a lot of joy with cheap ebay led bulbs lasting more than a few months, so this time i took another tact and decided to use smd led strips, having a google they seem to last well compared to normal bulbs so as a test item i just knocked these up and did a little how2
This is what you receive for £13-15 a roll of 300 leds and yes you can just liight the whole roll up in one go
you can cut chunks of 3 off and it has connections you can solder some wires onto once you strip back the plastic coating (didnt get any pics of this because i plain forgot). You cant remove the spare connections on the end as they wont work if you do (yes i tried)
this is what your out to change
You remove your sunvisors by undoing the 2 screws nearest the pillar and unplugging the connector, you may find its tucked in the roof but it will come down with some jiggling. if you cant manage this without pictures you should probably stop before you hurt yourself.
Once its out you need to remove the inner section, use a small screwdriver to pry it then work out the legs on the edges of the piece it will be tight but you can see what you need to do once its moved a touch.
This is what you need to get to, remove the bulbs now the top copper strip is the live (+) and the bottom one is earth (-)
with some wire attached at each terminal of the strip (they are marked), attached to the copper strips your done
Reassemble the unit and fitting is the reversal of removal and your done
This one shows the colour better
Contrast to the oe offwhite colour in the centre light
How2 discussion.
