The MOT Test has changed on 20th May 2018

Post by Robsey »

I have seen lots of questions about how the new MOT changes will affect our trusted Cavaliers.

This is the official ".gov" page outlining the changes.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/mot- ... 0-may-2018

For the most part, we do not need to worry, as it is primarily aimed at newer cars with diesel particulate filters (DPFs).

The important changes for us is an obvious lack of maintenance or servicing.
Fluid leaks or under inflated tyres.

Regular weekly checks, should spot 90% of these long before the MOT is due.

So this is a list of CHECKS described in the NEW MOT CHANGES that would affect your Cavalier .

1 - If tyres are obviously underinflated.

2 - If the brake fluid has been contaminated.

3 - For fluid leaks posing an environmental risk.

4 - Defective Brake pad warning lights where fitted at the factory.

5 - If brake pads or discs are missing.

NOTE - Defective Reverse lights are NOT a failure for cars older than 2009!!

The other major change is categories of pass and fail, as well as whether a repair should be made immediately or attention should be considered in the near future.
(Within a reasonable time frame).
The term "Dangerous" is used for the worst categories.

I hope that this clarifies the situation, and eases a lot of un-necessary worries.

As with any Cavalier, the worst causes of failure would be corrosion or emissions.
