Her indoors Corsa has an oil leak and I think its the rear main seal in,which needs gearbox removing.

Does the stop oil leaks additive work and would it stop this leak?

Depends on how bad the leak is, if the gasket or seal at fault is nackered bad enough, no additive will help there.

Agreed - oil additives like STP or the like are used to make seals swell.
So only help with minor leaks.

Tears or serious leaks will need a seal replacement.
I suppose it depends on which Corsa you have, as to how difficult it will be to get the box off.
Corsa-B and C won't be too bad,

But Corsa-D and E will be a nightmare due to the amount of wiring and sensors and other ancillaries that need to be moved or unplugged to make enough space to get to the drive shafts, selector linkage and the bell-housing bolts.
In the case of a later Corsa, I would get the clutch components replaced too whilst the box is off.

It makes sense to try the cheaper fluid additive fix first, and cross your fingers that it is enough to stop or reduce the leak.

more than likey wont stop leaking until the seal is replaced.
be sure that the oil level is never over filled as this is the certain cause for failure.
make sure the the crankcase ventilation system isn't blocked
