"Prison Break-Out at Robsey Gardens Young Offenders Unit"

Prison officials report that one of their most dangerous inmates had broken out of her cell early this morning.

Ebby, a dopey black bugger was found wandering C Wing after breaking out of her cell.

Despite having no tools and even less brain matter, she had broken no less than three padlocks off her holding gate.

She had then forced the gate back and made her escape.

Prison warders were only able to find partial remains of the broken locks.

After being caught, Ebby refused to make a statement. She is being tight-lipped on how she managed to destroy prison property with her bare paws.

It is understood that prison officials will be looking at beefing up security by buying new, bigger and stronger padlocks from Widnes shopping centre today.

The only available witness, Phoebe was unable to make a statement, preferring instead, to remain in her cage.

Officials will be bringing in cadaver dogs to help search for the missing lock remains.

Oh dear Robsey, this break-out sounds barking mad to me lol.

Dogs can be sneaky buggers when it comes to escaping. My old Labrador could slip her collar off when she was tied up even when I physically couldn't get it over her head, also she sussed how fire doors could be opened from either side if she decided she wanted to go somewhere.

Despite fitting bigger beefed up locks, she escaped both her cage and the dog-gate, whilst we were out this afternoon.

She was sat at the front door, waiting for us to come in.

As for the three original broken locks... I have no idea where the missing pieces got to. So they are still missing.

Maybe they will appear when she goes out tomorrow morning.

And again this morning - broke 4 padlocks, moved a fifth, bent the gate of the cage back... and was found wandering around the lounge again.

Her predecessor was called the "Dark Destroyer"... this one is proving far more defiant and destructive.

Robsey, I have to level with you, that is starting to sound awfully strange now. Maybe time to set up a surveillance system and see what goes on when you're not there?

I know what she is doing...
She is battering the crap out of the cage door, until something gives.

During the day, she is allowed to sit on my armchair when I am at work.
Or the wife's settee when she is not sat on it.

Ebby just wants the freedom to sleep on a comfier warm chair or settee, which both have soft warm throws on them.

Much more civilised than a metal cage with a plastic floor - she used to have 'vet bedding' but she kept destroying it, so now she gets bare plastic to lie on.

She is about 15 months old, so probably going through the rebellious teenager phase.

And just like "Kevin and Perry", she has no concept of rules and discipline.

Would it be worth trying some charity shop duvets? Used to get them for Bethany, and she would happily take herself to bed in her cage.

We have plenty of old blankets and stuff.

That's crazy! 4 Padlocks broken!

Al least she's just destroying the cage at the moment and not anything else.

Well she has chewed a few items,

The most expensive being a purse containing some Euros...
I managed to rescue €8, but no idea how much she has eaten.

Thankfully, I have managed to find three padlocks that appear to be holding up to the impacts.
Strategicly placed, they seem to be keeping her prisoner - for now!!

How's the pooch adapting now?

The cage is very badly buckled and damaged, but it still manages to contain her at night.

We did try her out of the cage a few nights, but she tried to eat a few of the wife's favourite teddies.
So back in the cage she goes when we are not able to keep an eye on her.

We have given up on soft bedding for her.
She always soiled the cage when she had bedding down.
Bare plastic floor, and she is okay.
Lovely clean girl... just still batters the cage door when she is locked in.

She is 3 yrs old now

We lost Phoebe, the older dog in March 2021. Ebony was very quiet and glum for a couple of months, but now she is back to her old sod-pot ways.

That is about as settled as she will ever get.

She is a good affectionate dog.
Definitely a daddy's girl.

She often likes to lie her "lardy arse" on me when we chill in the evening.
Nothing to be sneezed at when she weighs 60kg.
(The weight of 3 normal large dogs or 4 medium dogs )

It is with much sadness that I have to report that Ebony lost her brief battle with a very brutal bacterial disease last night. Leptospyria.

On Wednesday night she was merrily walking on our usual route... 46 hours later, we had to say goodnight for the last time.

Some members will have met her at VauxFest 2019, VBOA 2021 and VBOA2023.

It is odd adjusting to a house without any animals for the first time in twenty-nine years.

Just as a reminder of VauxFest 2019...in the back seat of my Cavalier. At the tender age of 11 months old-ish.



Back in action at VBOA 2021.



At VBOA 2023, she attracted a lot more attention in the hanger, than most of the cars outside in the rain.

She had just turned 5 years old a month or so ago. No age really.



I do have to say a heart felt thank you to all the staff at the Animal Trust in Failsworth and latterly at the Animal Trust pet hospital in Bolton. In Bolton they gave her continuous one to one care, for the last 22 hrs of her life.

In a rare move, my wife and I were allowed to join Ebony for the last few hours of her life in the isolation unit to see if it would create a response.

But it was clear after a while that there was only one right thing to do.
Mandy couldn't face the guilt of doing it, so I had to give verbal and written consent to set Ebby free.

At least she was not alone when she set off on her final journey.

Sorry to hear this Rob,

Very sad news, you have my sympathies.
I grew up with dogs in my family and it's never easy when they reach the end of their lives as you become so attached to them.

She was daddy's girl, and probably should have been called shadow, because she never left my side.

A gentle giant, who wanted nothing more than lots of love and plenty of play time.

I would recommend a well socialised great dane to anyone. She was our third, and they were all soft and playfull - even with children.
The down side is the short life span if they are pure pedigrees.

My sympathies also Rob,

we lost our 7yo jack russell in June under similar circumstances over a weekend due to a congenital heart defect.
The house seems so empty just now so i know how you and Mandy must be feeling.

There's no doubt we'll get another when the time is right, whenever that is, some dogs need more time to recover from. Until your time i'm sure there will be many happy memories to look back on.

Normally I am very stoic, but she got the better of me a few times yesterday.
If anyone, it will be Mandy who needs a dog sooner rather than later. She will be home alone whilst I am at work.

After the huge vet fees, we will not be in a position to consider a new pup for many months.
And I am not getting any younger, so that's another consideration. Having the energy a new pup will need.

It was very hard for Mandy.
She missed the pooch so much, that we cancelled a planned Florida holiday, to free up funds for another pup.

It was only a week that we were dog-less.
What a long and quiet week it was.

Now we are back at square-one again with a pup with no house-training. But after just one week she is already fully aware of where to toilet.
But - it looks like this one will be a mummy's girl.

They may look big and dopey, but they are amazingly quick to learn. And she is already getting a huge fan-club from friends and work colleagues.
