Jammie Dodgers, much like the humble Custard Cream, used to be beautifully presented biscuits. The biscuit part had an intricate design (bringing to mind Victorian era graphics), but then, without warning, the bosses at Burton's saw fit to take this most sophisticated of munchables and dumb it down with a 'splat' design that looks as though it has walked straight out of the pages of The Beano.

I'd say the old design is far more indicative of the late Georgian period rather than Victorian.

The new design however, seems to have more of a pre-school motif.

Funny what marketing bods come up with sometimes.

Is it me, or does the later biscuit pastry seem a bit plasticky and pale.

Not only is the design dumbed down, so is the flavour.
Much more bland and powdery.

do you know what! my eyes never got the chance to see the new dreadful design because as soon as the packs open its like an asembly line, dunked then munched.
Flavour is pathetic! Texture is like chalk.
The jam is totally different too, it resembles eating bluetack
Not my favourite anymore!

You're right about the consistency of what it is that they're trying to palm off as 'biscuit'; you bite into a Jammie Dodger to be met with a mouthful of powder. Fail.

Nothing will ever beat a Jaffa Cake, except maybe a bourbon biscuit.

Hmm - both are a bit too rich in taste for me.
Especially the Jaffas.

Bourbons - not a chocolate based biscuit or cake person.
