rear arch bubbles....

hi, my cavs rear arch lips were quite rotten when i got it, and being skint after tax, mot, insurance, etc i chopped, bodyfilled and sprayed the rust. this turned out great and lasted for about six months but now the rot has creeped back through with a vengance.. im gonna buy some new weld-in arches but just wondering if anyones had arches done before, and a rough price fitted ? would like it professionally done but if its horrendous i might do them myself.. cheers guys

the guy who owned the car before me had rear arches dun for 150 quid,cheap job as i have had to keep on top of rust thats coming through but all sorted for the moment as i painted underbody seal in the arches.Better get your arches done by a pro refurb garage coz the arches need to be properly sealed

as rich says a cheap job wont last long .
you defo have to make sure you do a really good sealing job of the inners and outers behind the arch or its a waste of time

i did my arches on my first cav and found the hardest part was blending and feathering the new arch into the body, each time I thought it was invisible then painted it, you could still see discrepancies as you looked down the side of the car .It looked good (from a distance) but I was never completely happy.

I have heard some silly prices for arch repair ... personally i would hunt down a shell with perfect arches(there are a few about ) rather have a solid shell for 3-400 quid than just arches then rebuild the car to my spec

in the region of around £200 really, but to be honest you always have the chance that the pot rivets on the weld will rust through, so really you best getting it done right.

You can cheaply tart them up with a grinder, some chemical metal and some touch up sprays, I will be doing mine soon (until I can afford to have rear quaters replaces rather than just the arches....)

i got my cav sri arches done last year. i bought the arches myself from beavers auto pannels and paid a bodyshop to fit them for me. cost me £200 per side but i was well pleased with the results. the website if your interested:
