Could be a number of things but in my past experience, it happened on my old hatchback, lifted the carpets/sound deadening foam up and it turned out to be a tiny rust hole in the floor pan... But other suggestions would be a leaking windscreen seal or rust holes in the A pillar/front bulkhead... It may be a case of stripping panels/carpets out to find the cause....

The good news is itis a very common fault and the first place to look and he usual solution is simple.

With both Cav and Vectra dirt/leaves etc block up the drains at the exteranl bottom of the windscreen near the wiper arms and wiper motor etc.

So we start by looking at the vent/drain/grid each side by the bonnet hinge. Clean that area completely

Then find the sock like rubber drain - look at the bottom centre of the windcreen and then 12 to 18 inches down the bulkhead. That cloggs up often. Find the slit hole at the bottom of the rubber sock and get finger in to feel the dirt. Then clean that out.

Use common sense to clean out the whole area at the bottom of the windscreen and check if it is clear by pooring water on the windscreen and seeing if the water disappears into drain holes at the bottom of the windscreen area and comes out the drain hole at the front of the sill/front door pillar.

Check for rust in the corners of the scuttle area as cavaliers tend to go here

A very common area that people tend to overlook is the seal around the fan blower. Usually, if the sock has been blocked for a while, water will sit in the scuttle and rott the foam seal.

4x 8mm screw bolts and a little tug will free the plastic trim round the blower motor, clean the area up and reseal using something like silkaflex or tiger seal - a god thick bead will not go amiss.

But check the other suggestions too.

Hard bit is drying out the car afterwards.

I had wet floor on passenger side when I got me cav, I got told or asked if the elephant trunk that's on the bulkhead was clogged. I didn't know such a thing was there so I got to looking and found it. and it was clogged with leaves and mud. took a bit to get it cleaned out but since then never had a wet floor. not to sure if it was that but when it rains I have a puddle of water on the road where that thing is so I guess its a drain but when clogged filled the dash under the wipers and dripped down into the car??
