Can anyone tell me what the W=**** number should be on a standard set of Cavalier GSi clocks? I'm pretty sure mine has the wrong clocks as the speedo is miles out and the fuel gauge only goes up to 50L instead of 60L. Mine say W=1788

When you say miles out what are we talking about 5-10 MPH ? When I compare mine to the satnav it reads higher.
Mine says W 1719, every thing is standard with 205 55 15 tyres.
As Robsey says lots of variables including gearbox
The instrument dials are all available separately.
The 50 litre fuel gauge infers a smaller vehicle, such as a small engine cc Astra mk3
The Astra is the only car that the Cavalier dash will fit.
And the Astra may have smaller wheel rims and tyres, which would require the higher W number, which equates to wheel rotations per mile.
So in this case you are looking at three main variables -
Wheel diameter - 13, 14 or 15" rims. Smaller the wheel, the higher the W number.
Tyre profile - the lower the profile, the higher the W number.
Gearbox final drive ratio.
You can ignore the gear ratio if you have a 1995 electronic speedo vehicle.
Ian's W value sounds correct... it is the only one that I could find on EPC (electronic parts catalogue) last night.
In EPC, the W figure is actually a K figure.. but hey ho.
TIS (technical info system) did not touch on the instruments themselves at all, other than how to fit and remove
Ah ok, definitely sounds like the clocks are wrong then. I was pretty certain no 2.0L Cavalier would have a 50L fuel guage. My GSi is completely standard (it's Barry Butlers former GSi). The clock is about 15mph out, I had to use a GPS speedo on my phone on my trip to Radwood last week.
I saw somewhere w=1719 is right for a standard GSi. No idea how this 1788 ended up in mine
