flattening primer?

Post by Martin_TD »

Hey, I'm wondering... I've got a panel here for the cav it's got the black coating (ecoat ?) some of it was chipped away and I'm wondering if I should flatten the primer to make it level in bits that the coating has been chipped in storage.

I've done a bit of searching and everyone has a different opinion/way of doing it and I'm thinking it might just be a waste of time flattening the primer, obviously I'd need to wet sand the clear to get rid of orange peel. Or should I just remove the ecoat completely?

Thanks... again :P

Part 1 what are you painting it with.

Part 2 if its just the black primer yes just sand it flat to get any marks out the surface should be perfect before painting, painting hides nothing.

I'll be using rattle cans, I just wasn't sure if the black coating/primer whatever it is should stay on but I'll just remove it and go from there. I wasn't gonna do it myself but two weeks on holiday from work, I'm a bit skint now :P

if your using rattle cans dont flat anything as its too bloody thin.

Dont remove all the black primer just flat it till there are no marks, primer over the bits you have bare metal.
