Is the handle itself broken? Or is the door itself bent somehow?

Am I a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper? Well that depends on how much I've had to drink...

Faulty solenoid? I take it the lock will not operate if it's stuck, you can't move the position of it? I had the same problem with one of my Omega's doors recently and had to climb in through the boot to open from inside in order to get into the car! Although that was the external locking mechanism, not the door open/close function which worked fine if operated from the inside.

(I then had to do exactly the same thing with one of my Cavaliers!)

I recall a few of these, the levers in the door lock dry out and get sticky with age. If it's the same then the trick is to take the weather strip off the outside, then flood the lock with wd40, and using a long screwdriver work the locking levers to free them up. I can't remember which bit it is that sticks, but it was quite a common thing.
