Door trim adhesive - advice please.

Post by Lowrider Dave »

I want to refit the exterior door trim, I have scrapped off all the old adhesive - what's the best product to use to stick it back on, is there an industry standard?

If it's the early thin ones, forget it, if it's the later rigid ones, you're alright. Good double sided tape and a bead of silicone around it to keep water out should be enough.

Am I a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper? Well that depends on how much I've had to drink...

Most of the replacement parts come with double sided tape, obviously a waterproof variety so I would look at the options available.

A bead of silicone around the door trims?? Why on earth would you want to do that, If your gonna do that then sod it you may aswell use duck tape to hold them on

On a serious note as planetc and cav342 half said use a top quality double sided tape, not too thick though as they will look a mess and also not too thin either as they wont hold properly. Maybe a few dots of stickerflex along the trim inbetween the 2 strips of tape just to make sure they dont start peeling off.

3M make an double sided foam tape for external use that's guaranteed for 7 years, I've used it on different badges on various cars without any falling off.

Yep top stuff or use stickerflex (pu sealer) and hold in position with masking tape until cured

Cheers guys. It originally had rubber trim which you can't refit as they are just rubbish, I've got a nice straight set off a CD I carefully removed and I'm now cleaning all the old adhesive padding off the final piece.

Is Dinitrol 410 or Apoxy resin good for sticking spoilers and door bumper trims.
