A pillar

Post by joe cavalier sri »

Why do cav's start to rust on A pillar I've seen a few cav's with this problem and it seems to rust more on passengers side A pillar than the drivers side can anyone shed some light on this and how to stop it ? Cheers

Mine also has this problem. I'm not looking at it too closely until after the MOT work has been done though.

Are repair panels available for the lower corner, or do they have to be fabricated?

Don't think replacement panels are available unless you physically cut and weld in a section from a donor car. That's quite bad in the photo, didn't think they rust there to be honest. Must be leaves and crap blocking the drainage, causing water to back up...

If the windscreen was replaced at some point and not fitted to a good standard rust can start all around the window frame. That's what happened to my Diplomat I think as it's not the original windscreen on there.

That rust looks as if it may have started nearer the edge of the window and spread.

Yep it could be anything that started it off. Could have been some slipped with a screwdriver when it was nearly new and left the scratch to rust away and 20 years later that's what you get.

However it was started you need to be giving that a right good poking with a screw driver as that is bound to come into holes. Best bet to fix it would be to plate it up with some clean metal.

I cannot imagine how many left the factory with poorly bonded screens that were missed on the pdi, but we had lots of them that we picked up.... maybe 5 or 6 a week. Although that was in a dealer with a high fleet throughput it's still a lot that were potentially missed elsewhere.
