Changing rear passenger door help!!

Post by monty2000 »

Ive got a replacement door for my mk3 hatch sri as its scraped.
Im going to give it a go tonight.
trying to find a how 2 but cant find anything.
the locking mechanism is in the replacement door but the glass and door panel aren't also.
I understand u have to support the door with a jack and smack the pins out with a pair of mole grips and a hammer.
any tips or help would be appreciated

It's just a matter of precision and hammering. Basically as you say, pins out, undo the door stopper bar that stops the door swinging out too far, electric loom plug off if it has one, and take off door. Helps to have another pair of hands on the door but a jack may work.

Am I a light sleeper or a heavy sleeper? Well that depends on how much I've had to drink...

remove card, rubbers wind window down until you can see the runner it sits in, then carefully dislodge it from said runner (holds in at the bottom)
then remove glass upwards... Might pay to pay to get the window taken out if not confident...

When I done mine... we undone the stopper bit first to give us more room with tapping out the pins...
Also... when the pins are out you dont want to be pissing about unbolting things...
They should be last out and first back in... lol

iirc... you will need to drill out the rest of the window runner stuff and rivet it into the new door...
